FROM THE TCI WIRE:

Iraq’s prime minister said the U.S.-led military coalition that has been helping his country fight Islamic State militants is no longer needed, though he still wants strong ties with Washington.
“We believe the justifications for the international coalition have ended,” Prime Minister Mohammed al-Sudani told The Wall Street Journal, as the war in Gaza frays Iraqi relations with Washington.

Sudani didn’t set a deadline for the departure of the coalition, which was formed in 2014 to mentor and support Iraqi forces in regaining control of their country after Islamic State militants seized swaths of northern and western Iraq.

Nor did Sudani close the door to a role for U.S. troops advising Iraqi forces to remain in the country under a new bilateral relationship that he said should follow.

But in an interview Tuesday during the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Sudani expressed broad dissatisfaction with American policy on the Gaza conflict. The West had turned a blind eye toward the plight of the Palestinians before Hamas’s Oct. 7 attack on Israel, he said, calling for increased pressure on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to end what he described as genocide.

So bring the US troops home.  They have a target on their backs right now and every time Joe Biden orders an attack on the Iraqi military (the militias became part of the official Iraqi military seven years ago), it puts the US troops on the ground there more at risk.

That's before you even factor in Gaza..  And the Iraqi people overwhelming reject the slaughter of Palestinians in Gaza.  That is the feeling around the world.  ALJAZEERA notes this morning:

Thousands of protesters have taken to the streets of Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, to show their support for Palestinians.

Al Jazeera’s Mohammed al-Attab, reporting from the scene of protests, said many in the crowd accused the US of supporting Israel’s war and promised to continue standing by their “brothers in Palestine”.

“They are now saying that, ‘We don’t care about your rage, we don’t care about whatever you do to us, we will continue our support and resilience with Palestinians until Israel stops its war on Palestine’,” he said.

Instead of demanding a cease-fire, Joe Biden has supported the slaughter and it has inflamed the Middle East.  Keith Jones (WSWS) observes:

Nuclear-armed Pakistan carried out air-launched rocket and drone-missile strikes on at least seven separate locations inside neighbouring Iran on Thursday, targeting what it said were bases of Balochi secessionist insurgents.

Iran, which vehemently condemned the strikes as a violation of its state sovereignty, said they had killed nine foreign nationals, including four children. The Baloch Liberation Army—which has waged a decades-long cross-border insurgency in Pakistani Balochistan, the country’s poorest, sparsely-populated westernmost province—confirmed that its forces had come under attack.

Although Pakistan did not say so explicitly, Thursday’s strikes were in part retaliation for an attack Iran had mounted some 48 hours before inside Pakistan.

According to Iran, its Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) used missile and drone strikes to hit camps of the Jaish al-Adl, a Balochi armed secessionist group that has carried out attacks in Iran’s predominantly Balochi south-east. Following that action, Tehran emphasized it did not want to disrupt “brotherly” relations with Pakistan. But in a message clearly intended for Washington and Israel, Iran said that it reserves the right to take all necessary measures to defend itself.

The tit-for tat attacks between Iran and Pakistan add further combustion in a region already set ablaze by US imperialism and its allies, which are using Israel’s genocidal war on the Palestinians of Gaza to prepare and provoke a wider war with Iran.

On Wednesday and Thursday evenings, the US carried out its fourth and fifth waves of missile strikes on Yemen in a week, hitting what it claimed were Iranian-backed Houthi positions in disparate areas across the country. Speaking to reporters earlier Thursday, US President Joe Biden had vowed the US-British campaign of air strikes against the Houthis would continue.

With the support of broad sections of the Yemeni people, Houthi fighters have disrupted Red Sea shipping to press for an end to Israel’s onslaught on Gaza.

Also on Wednesday, the Biden administration labeled the Houthis a “Specially Designated Global Terrorist group,” opening the door to the imposition of sweeping sanctions. Aid groups immediately responded with warnings that the designation threatens to greatly intensify Yemen’s humanitarian crisis. As a result of the almost decade-long war the Saudi regime has waged on Yemen with US arms and logistical support, more than half of the country’s population—over 18 million people—need food and other assistance.

The European Union, meanwhile, is in the advanced planning stage for its own naval operation in the Red Sea that would support the US/British attacks on Yemen, while asserting its own role as a regional policeman. The German government is leading the charge in launching the mission, which it will support by dispatching a frigate to the region in early February, according to a report in the Welt am Sontag newspaper. Underscoring German imperialism’s major military expansion into the Middle East, Berlin is readying a shipment of 10,000 artillery shells to back Israel’s genocide in Gaza.

Emboldened by the to-the-hilt support Israel is receiving from the North American and European imperialist powers, Israel’s fascist Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu baldly reasserted his goal of a Greater Israel in perpetuity Thursday, saying his government would never agree to ceding sovereignty over any part of the West Bank.

Yes, Netanyahu does not believe in peace or in a two-state solution or anything but expelling Palestinians from their own lands.  AP reported yesterday:

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Thursday he has told the United States that he opposes the establishment of a Palestinian state as part of any postwar scenario, underscoring the deep divisions between the close allies three months into Israel’s assault on Gaza aiming to eliminate its Hamas rulers.

The U.S. has called on Israel to scale back its offensive and said that the establishment of a Palestinian state should be part of the “day after.”

But in a nationally broadcast news conference, Netanyahu vowed to press ahead with the offensive until Israel realizes a “decisive victory over Hamas.” He also rejected the idea of Palestinian statehood. He said he had relayed his positions to the Americans.

“In any future arrangement … Israel needs security control all territory west of the Jordan,” Netanyahu told a nationally broadcast news conference. “This collides with the idea of sovereignty. What can you do?”

“The prime minister needs to be capable of saying no to our friends,” he added.

Following Netanyahu's comments, U.S. State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller said on Thursday that "there is no way to solve [the region's] long-term challenges to provide lasting security and there is no way to solve the short-term challenges of rebuilding Gaza and establishing governance in Gaza and providing security for Gaza without the establishment of a Palestinian state."

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres responded to Netanyahu's comments in a statement reiterating his stance that "the only way to stem the suffering" in the region is "an immediate humanitarian cease-fire in Gaza and a process that leads to sustained peace for Israelis and Palestinians, based on a two-state solution."

Unnamed sources have told reporters that U.S. frustration with Netanyahu's far-right government has been increasing along with the casualty count in Gaza—which Palestinian officials and international groups say is over 100,000, mostly innocent men, women, and children.

President Joe Biden has accused Israel of "indiscriminate bombing" of civilians in Gaza but continues to back Netanyahu's policy unconditionally and the U.S. has supplied Israel with billions of dollars in military aid and diplomatic support at the United Nations and beyond.

Gaza remains under assault.  Binoy Kampmark (DISSIDENT VOICE) points out, "Bloodletting as form; murder as fashion.  The ongoing campaign in Gaza by Israel’s Defence Forces continues without stalling and restriction.  But the burgeoning number of corpses is starting to become a challenge for the propaganda outlets:  How to justify it?  Fortunately for Israel, the United States, its unqualified defender, is happy to provide cover for murder covered in the sheath of self-defence."   CNN has explained, "The Gaza Strip is 'the most dangerous place' in the world to be a child, according to the executive director of the United Nations Children's Fund."  ABC NEWS quotes UNICEF's December 9th statement, ""The Gaza Strip is the most dangerous place in the world to be a child. Scores of children are reportedly being killed and injured on a daily basis. Entire neighborhoods, where children used to play and go to school have been turned into stacks of rubble, with no life in them."  NBC NEWS notes, "Strong majorities of all voters in the U.S. disapprove of President Joe Biden’s handling of foreign policy and the Israel-Hamas war, according to the latest national NBC News poll. The erosion is most pronounced among Democrats, a majority of whom believe Israel has gone too far in its military action in Gaza."  The slaughter continues.  It has displaced over 1 million people per the US Congressional Research Service.  Jessica Corbett (COMMON DREAMS) points out, "Academics and legal experts around the world, including Holocaust scholars, have condemned the six-week Israeli assault of Gaza as genocide."   The death toll of Palestinians in Gaza is grows higher and higher. YENI SAFAK notes, "The Palestinian death toll from the ongoing Israeli onslaught on the Gaza Strip since Oct. 7 has climbed to 24,762, the Health Ministry in the territory said Friday.  In a statement, the ministry added that 62,108 other people had been injured in the offensive."  ALJAZEERA notes, "The number of Palestinians killed since the start of Israel’s attacks on October 7 has risen to 24,285, Gaza’s health ministry says. At least 61,154 others have been wounded."   In addition to the dead and the injured, there are the missing.  AP notes, "About 4,000 people are reported missing."  And the area itself?  Isabele Debre (AP) reveals, "Israel’s military offensive has turned much of northern Gaza into an uninhabitable moonscape. Whole neighborhoods have been erased. Homes, schools and hospitals have been blasted by airstrikes and scorched by tank fire. Some buildings are still standing, but most are battered shells."  Kieron Monks (I NEWS) reports, "More than 40 per cent of the buildings in northern Gaza have been damaged or destroyed, according to a new study of satellite imagery by US researchers Jamon Van Den Hoek from Oregon State University and Corey Scher at the City University of New York. The UN gave a figure of 45 per cent of housing destroyed or damaged across the strip in less than six weeks. The rate of destruction is among the highest of any conflict since the Second World War."  Max Butterworth (NBC NEWS) adds, "Satellite images captured by Maxar Technologies on Sunday reveal three of the main hospitals in Gaza from above, surrounded by the rubble of destroyed buildings after weeks of intense bombing in the region by Israeli forces."

BULLY BOY PRESS CEDRIC'S BIG MIX & THOMAS FRIEDMAN IS A GREAT MAN & ANN'S MEGA DUB  & THE WORLD TODAY JUST NUTS & THE COMMON ILLS  -- THE KOOL AID TABLE

REACHED FOR COMMENT BETWEEN THREE-WAYS, BRIDGET ZIEGLER TOLD THESE REPORTERS -- MUST CREDIT  BULLY BOY PRESS CEDRIC'S BIG MIX & THOMAS FRIEDMAN IS A GREAT MAN & ANN'S MEGA DUB  & THE WORLD TODAY JUST NUTS & THE COMMON ILLS  -- THE KOOL AID TABLE   -- "YES, AND WE AT MOMS FOR BIGOTRY WILL BE BANNING THIS BOOK BY THE END OF AUGUST."

ASKED IF ANYTHING COULD DERAIL OR DELAY HER BANNING PLANS, BRIDGET RESPONDED, "NO!" THEN SHE PAUSED A MOMENT BEFORE ASKING, "WHY?  YOU KNOW SOME LOVELY LADIES WANT TO HOOK UP?"

FROM THE TCI WIRE:

We've got a lot to cover but we have to start with one topic.  First off, Donald Trump.  January 6, 2021.  A number of e-mails insist that I'm supposed to defend him and that various people are wrong to argue that he's be removed from the ballot.

Our position on insurrection was: This is a serious charge and based on what was known in the immediate aftermath, I was comfortable -- as someone who studied poli sci as an undergraduate and a graduate and who, as a graduate, emphasized especially revolutions and rebellions -- was comfortable with a rebellion.  At that time.  Little provided by Congress' nonsense (so-called investigation) persuaded me to change my mind.  One periodical that we highlight from time to time jumped the gun.  They may have had a 'feeling' but the evidence was not there for the immediate call.  We didn't highlight any articles from them in the first three months after January 6th that dealt with what happened for that reason.

We have since had many of Trump's cohorts flip on him.  And much more has been uncovered.

I am comfortable with the term "insurrection" being applied now.  This was a plot.  It was an effort to avoid a duly elected official from being sworn in.  The loser (Donald) plotted and lied and put the country at risk -- he put democracy at risk.

Anyone grabbing the vapors, so sorry. Here's Ken Block at USA TODAY yesterday:

In November 2020, former President Donald Trump asserted that voter fraud had altered the outcome of the 2020 presidential election. The day after the election, his campaign hired an expert in voter data to attempt to prove Trump’s allegations and put him back in the White House.

I am the expert who was hired by the Trump campaign.

The findings of my company’s in-depth analysis are detailed in the depositions taken by the Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol. The transcripts show that the campaign found no evidence of voter fraud sufficient to change the outcome of any election. That message was communicated directly to White House chief of staff Mark Meadows.

Our findings have also been subpoenaed by special counsel Jack Smith’s federal investigation and Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis’ investigation in Georgia. Those emails and documents show that the voter data available to the campaign contained no evidence of large-scale voter fraud based on data mining and fraud analytics.

More important, claims of voter fraud made by others were verified as false, including proof of why those claims were disproven.

Donald lied repeatedly.  He attempted to steal the election.  He wanted a riot because that could provide a delay.  Go back to the archives, I stated repeatedly that once the electoral college voted, it was over.  Whether it was stolen or not, a presidential election ended with the electoral college vote.  There is no direct vote for president.

He allowed a riot to take place, he did nothing to stop it.  He wanted it to take place and was to slide in his slate of fake electors.

A majority of Americans believe the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot was an “assault on democracy that must not be forgotten,” as per a Washington Post-University of Maryland poll released this week. The poll was conducted Dec. 14-18 and included 1,024 respondents. The poll has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 4.1 percentage points.

The poll indicates that 55 percent believe the riot was a stark assault on democratic principles, while 43 percent said “too much is being made” of the riot and that it is “time to move on.”

The ramifications of the riot have permeated political discourse and action, as seen in the bold move by Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows (D), who decided to remove former President Trump from the state’s ballot, citing the 14th Amendment. Bellows said she had concluded the former president “over several months and culminating on January 6, 2021, used a false narrative of election fraud to inflame his supporters and direct them to the Capitol to prevent certification of the 2020 election and the peaceful transfer of power.”

What he did was outrageous and illegal.  And it was a direct threat to democracy.  Yes, he is legally liable for trying to steal the election.  If he wasn't, then nothing stops the next president who doesn't want to leave office from doing the same.

I'm taking Shenna Bellows at her word.  I believe her.  If she's telling the truth, she did her duty.

"Oh! It's going to hurt us!"

What?

Since when are we too chicken to enforce the law.

This is nothing minor.  This is huge.  A loser refuses to accept the outcome of an election, he plots to install a separate set of electors to vote in the electoral college, he stirs up his supporters with massive lies about his votes not being counted and the election being stolen, he encourages a crowd to come to DC to 'stop the steal,' he stirs them up with a speech and sends them off to Congress, a riot takes place.

In what damn world is that acceptable?

It's not an it was an insurrection and is it is violation of the Constitution -- and not just the 14th Amendment.  He violated Article II Section 1 as well as The Constitution's 12th Amendment (the sections on the electors which does not have the president lobbying for an alternate slate.)

Again, some people rushed to conclusions based on the gut.  They may have been right, they may have been wrong.  We now know a lot more than we did in January of 2021.  Donald Trump violated the Constitution in numerous ways.

You break the law, you need to suffer the consequences.  That's especially true when you committed a fraud upon the nation in an attempt to hold on to an office that you lost.

He conspired to steal the presidency from the rightful winner, that's a serious crime.

So all the ones wringing their hands now about what effect pulling him from a state's ballot might have?  I'm more concerned with the laws that were broken and how ignoring them normalizes Donald Trump's actions for future losers who don't want to leave the White House.  That is actually the more serious issue and the one that the government needs to address.

I don't care about the hand wringers.  I also don't care about the liars like Jonathan Turley who keep claiming some bad precedent is being set via accountability.

No.  When you break the law you should be punished.  That's the rule of law.  He can lie and distort all he wants but that is how it works and, again, failure to do so would actually set a precedent -- a very bad one.  Jonathan's sick in the head and sick in the heart, don't let him deceive you.

As for his and his supporters nonsense of 'double jeopardy' or the issue having been addressed in Congress.  The House impeachment was seeking removal from office.  That's it.  He can face -- and should -- criminal charges and, no, this is  not double jeopardy.  And, please note, I thought both impeachments were nonsense.  I stand by that.  But that has nothing to do with facing charges in a criminal court.

Had Nixon not resigned and been impeached that would only have removed from office.  Grasp that.  Grasp that he resigned to avoid impeachment and he would have faced -- and should have faced -- criminal charges but Gerald Ford pardoned him.

Numerous GOP nominees currently say they will pardon him.  That's another reason not to vote for them.  That's another reason for me to vote for the Democratic Party nominee whomever it is.  (I'm really hoping we'll have a March 31st LBJ repeat but I'm voting Democratic regardless.  I've explained why.  I'm not telling you how to vote, I'm telling you how I'm voting.)

Donald Trump is not an anomaly and, believe it or not, when it comes to that crazed MAGA crowd, he's actually one of the milder ones.  Consequences have to be delivered to send a message to the Marjorie Taylor Greenes and other insane crazies who have their own presidential aspirations.

Turley serves and services Trump

BULLY BOY PRESS CEDRIC'S BIG MIX & THOMAS FRIEDMAN IS A GREAT MAN & ANN'S MEGA DUB  & THE WORLD TODAY JUST NUTS & THE COMMON ILLS  -- THE KOOL AID TABLE

WELL GUESS WHO GOT CAUGHT WITH SOMETHING EXTRA ON HIS BLUE GAP DRESS?

FORMER PRESIDENT AND FOREVER NUT CASE DONALD TRUMP TOOK TO HIS VERSION OF TWITTER AND DID A BIG DUMP TELLING PEOPLE TO "ROT IN HELL."  INSTEAD OF EXPRESSING OUTRAGE OVER THAT "CHRISTMAS DAY GREETING,' JONATHAN TURLEY -- ALLEGED LAW PROFESSOR BUT VERIFIED BIGOT -- DROPPED TO HIS KNEES, PULLED IT OUT OF TRUMP'S PANTS BUT BEFORE GETTING DOWN TO BUSINESS TOLD AMERICA

Trump's message of "May They Rot in Hell...Merry Christmas" is to holiday greetings what Die Hard is to Christmas movies: a matter of considerable interpretation for those of us stuck in the Peace-on-Earth or even just Ho-Ho-Ho mindset.

THE REPLIES CAME FAST.

1) For brief moments (there aren’t many) when I don’t feel embarrassed to have sought out ’s class when I was in school, he goes out of his way to shame an institution I hold dear, , at every possible turn even on a holiday. It would be funny if it wasn’t so sad

2Did you have to take his junk out of your mouth before you posted this, or can you do two things at once?

3You are pathetic
, one is a MOVIE, the other is suppose to be a Presidential Candidate. You pathetic attempts to excuse anything Trump does is shocking.

4You really are a loser Jon. An embarrassment to your University. How sad you really are….

5Another fine addition to GW’s law school recruiting brochure…

6) As a fellow lawyer I can appreciate a solid defense. This isn’t one. At what point do you look in the mirror and realize you’ve sold out?

7) Easy to see why other lawyers call you MIKE LINDELL WITH TENURE

8) Who is blackmailing you and how young are the kids in the picture?

9) Does your soul ever ache from all the lying?

10) @GWU, having served as Public Affairs or PIO at multiple universities, you have a problem on your hands. Free speech is paramount in Universities, but even tenured professors can tarnish your brand. That's what Turley is doing. Defending the indefensible with nonsense for pay.

AND FROM THERE, IT JUST GOT WORSE.

REACHED FOR COMMENT BY THESE REPORTERS, SWIRLEY TURLEY HISSED, "THE JOKE'S ON ALL OF YOU!  SANTA LEFT ME KNEE PADS FOR CHRISTMAS!"

AND JONATHAN'S GOING TO GET A LOT OF WEAR OUT OF THEM.

AND, JONATHAN, "THE JOKE'S ON ALL OF YOU!"?

NO, JONATHAN, THE JOKE IS ALWAYS YOU.  YOU ARE THE JOKE AND YOU MADE YOURSELF THAT.

FROM THE TCI WIRE:

REUTERS notes, "Pope Francis said in his Christmas message on Monday that children dying in wars, including in Gaza, are the 'little Jesuses of today' and that Israeli strikes there were reaping an 'appalling harvest' of innocent civilians."  The comments meant nothing to Benjamin Netanyahu -- War Criminal and prime minister of Israel. THE IRISH TIMES notes, "In an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal on Monday, Mr Netanyahu reiterated three prerequisites for peace: Hamas must be destroyed, Gaza must be demilitarised, and Palestinian society must be deradicalised."

The War Criminal knows full well that every bomb he drops, every life he takes only radicalizes the people in Gaza all the more.  He's used collective punishment from the start because he is a War Criminal.  Jake Johnson (COMMON DREAMS) reports:

In an unsparing Christmas sermon delivered from the occupied West Bank over the weekend, Rev. Dr. Munther Isaac decried the complicity of the church and Western governments in Israel's ongoing assault on Gaza, a nearly three-month military campaign that he called an "annihilation" and a "genocide."

"Leaders of the so-called 'free' lined up one after the other to give the green light for this genocide against a captive population. They gave the cover," Isaac, a Palestinian Christian theologian, said during a service titled, "Christ in the Rubble: A Liturgy of Lament."

"Not only did they make sure to pay the bill in advance, they veiled the truth and context, providing political cover. And, yet another layer has been added: the theological cover with the Western Church stepping into the spotlight," Isaac added. "Here in Palestine, the Bible is weaponized against us. Our very own sacred text... The theology of the empire becomes a powerful tool to mask oppression under the cloak of divine sanction."

With most of the territory's population struggling to survive under the intertwined threats of starvation, disease, and near-constant bombing, Isaac said that "Gaza today has become the moral compass of the world."

"If you are not appalled by what is happening, if you are not shaken to your core, there is something wrong with your humanity," Isaac said from Bethlehem, which Israeli forces attacked on Monday. "And if we, as Christians, are not outraged by this genocide, by the weaponizing of the Bible to justify it, there is something wrong with our Christian witness, and we are compromising the credibility of our Gospel message. If you fail to call this a genocide, it is on you. It is a sin and a darkness you willingly embrace."

And now the Israeli government is targeting The Red Cross.  THE NATIONAL notes:

Israeli shelling has hit the Palestinian Red Crescent's headquarters in Khan Younis, it said on Tuesday.

Israeli strikes have been getting closer to the headquarters, adjacent to Al Amal Hospital, both which shelter 14,000 displaced people.

[. . .]

The Palestine Red Crescent said that artillery shelling targeted the upper floors of its headquarters in Khan Younis, causing several injuries among the displaced people.

At what point do world leaders start listening to their populations and end this assault?

THE GUARDIAN explains what's going on in the video above:

As he vowed to continue the war during a speech in parliament, relatives of the hostages interrupted him and called for their immediate return. “Now! Now!” they shouted.

Families who have been awaiting their loved ones’ return after 80 days in captivity booed the prime minister, as Netanyahu said Israeli forces needed “more time” to increase military pressure on Hamas, which he argued would help to secure the captives’ release.

Later, protesters gathered near the defence ministry headquarters in central Tel Aviv before a war cabinet meeting, holding posters demanding “Free our hostages now – at any cost!”

On Monday, the opposition leader, Yair Lapid, said Israel needed to “bring the hostages home now”, adding: “We are not doing enough.” His comments were met with applause from the families of hostages.
