Whitehouse has long been the Senate’s leading voice for improving transparency and accountability in politics and in Washington, delivering a series of speeches on the Senate floor about the special interest scheme to capture the judicial branch. In August, Whitehouse wrote a letter to the director of the Federal Bureau of Prisons demanding more information on the transfer of Ghislaine Maxwell to a minimum-security prison camp in Texas. Maxwell, the convicted sex trafficker and Jeffrey Epstein associate, was transferred without explanation to the cushy prison camp after an unusual visit by Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche.

Whitehouse and Khanna have previously teamed up to investigate corruption in the fossil fuel industry, and introduced legislation to crack down on profiteering by Big Oil and return the industry’s excessive gains to working people.

Of course, Lawrence O'Donnell pointed out on MSNBC last night, Chump has The Epstein Files scandal to deal with but he also now has the Tom Homan scandal to deal with.

Anyone familiar with criminal law is aware that those kind of self-aggrandizing statements are the justifications that criminals make for taking bribes or stealing money.

Yesterday on MSNBC's THE WEEKNIGHT, US House Rep Jasmine Crockett provided the walk through on what Homan is accused of and how to pursue it.

Again, it is The Homan Files scandal and it's further corruption on display.

Over the weekend, it came out that Tom Homan, one of the senior architects of the Trump administration’s immigration policy, allegedly took $50K from undercover FBI agents posing as business executives hoping to bribe their way into government contracts if Trump won. He’s said to have accepted the funds — which the FBI reportedly captured on video — in a Cava bag. If the fast food chain doesn’t immediately capitalize on this with some sort of marketing campaign, then I’ve lost all faith in them.

Homan, interestingly enough, put himself front-and-center of the move to drop the Eric Adams bribery case. Homan never came across as the proper spokesperson for the administration’s decision, highlighted when he seemed to confirm a quid pro quo for dropping the Adams case, but in retrospect, he might have had a vested interest in putting out the message that bribery isn’t anything to be ashamed of.

On the topic of ICE, Dave Levinthal (CJR) reports:

Since late December, J. Dale Shoemaker, a reporter for the Investigative Post, a nonprofit newsroom based in Buffalo, has filed seventeen Freedom of Information Act requests with the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement and US Customs and Border Protection to guide his deep dives into federal law enforcement activity, deportation actions, and ICE detention centers in upstate New York. In return, he says, he has gotten only documents that were redacted beyond comprehension, or nothing at all. “I have not received a satisfactory response to a single one of them,” Shoemaker said.

Ryanne Mena, of the Los Angeles Daily News, sent ICE a FOIA request on January 24 for all grievance forms filed by detainees at facilities in Adelanto, California, between 2016 and early 2025. Nearly eight months later, she said, she’s received nothing: ICE “has failed to provide me with an estimated date of production despite repeated requests.”

Monica Eng, a reporter for Axios, filed a FOIA request with ICE in February, seeking data she hoped would inform stories about where and why agents were apprehending people in Illinois. At first, she said, ICE officials appeared willing to cooperate. But by March, ICE had denied Eng’s request in full, citing “ongoing law enforcement investigations.” Axios filed an administrative appeal with ICE, but hasn’t received a response. “I have filed a lot of FOIAs, and my requests to the Trump Department of Homeland Security have been some of the least successful and least transparent,” Eng said.

ICE and CBP have become centerpieces of President Donald Trump’s quest to deport millions of undocumented immigrants from US soil through aggressive law enforcement tactics and billions of dollars in new federal funding. But CJR spoke to nearly two dozen reporters, editors, and other people at news organizations and open-records watchdog groups across the country who have filed FOIA requests with the agencies, and who say that ICE and CBP officials routinely deny or ignore those requests. The agencies have never been particularly open with the press, but many reporters believe that their experience is part of an enhanced effort by the Trump administration to conceal immigration agency operations, even in possible violation of federal law. Some also described the agencies’ press offices as functionally useless, with media officials providing few, if any, answers to even their most basic of inquiries.

Chioma Chukwu, the executive director of American Oversight, a nonprofit organization that advocates for public access to government records, said ICE and Border Protection have an “abysmal” track record of transparency. Of 137 requests her group has filed with ICE and CBP over the course of 2025, there has been a “substantive response” to just one—“and that took almost seven months,” Chukwu said. “ICE and CBP remain among the slowest and least transparent agencies we deal with, routinely flouting FOIA’s requirements and denying the public timely access to information about their operations.”

This stonewalling comes at a time when ICE—and its parent organization, the Department of Homeland Security—has repeatedly cracked down on journalism about its operations. The department has described the video recording of ICE agents as “violence,” with a department spokesperson promising to prosecute those who “illegally harass ICE agents to the fullest extent of the law.” Multiple reporters have been arrested or injured while covering protests or anti-ICE rallies, including Salvadoran journalist Mario Guevaram, who was detained while covering a rally in Georgia in June, and Australian reporter Lauren Tomasi, who was shot in the leg with a rubber bullet as she reported on an anti-ICE protest in Los Angeles. In early September, a federal judge issued a preliminary injunction ordering DHS to stop using “nonlethal” weapons against journalists. “Under the guise of protecting the public, federal agents have endangered large numbers of peaceful protesters, legal observers, and journalists—as well as the public that relies on them to hold their government accountable,” the judge wrote. “The First Amendment demands better.”

Some news outlets told CJR they believe that, in ICE’s and CBP’s handling of their FOIA requests, the agencies are themselves violating federal law by ignoring statutory deadlines or failing to respond altogether. By law, government agencies must determine within twenty business days whether to fulfill or deny a FOIA request and “immediately notify” the requester of their decision. Agencies may also extend this deadline because of “unusual circumstances.” If fulfilling a FOIA request requires significant time, agencies are required by law to offer requesters an “opportunity to arrange with the agency an alternative time frame for processing the request or a modified request.” Requesters have the right to appeal agencies’ FOIA determinations, and if all else fails, they may sue the government in federal court.

Now why would ICE have anything to hide? Travis Gettys (RAW STORY) reports:

Federal agents caught and detained a 5-year-old girl to lure her immigrant father outside the family's home following a brief traffic pursuit, according to a report.

Video of the incident Tuesday in Leominster, Massachusetts, captures the family's anguished screams as Immigration and Customs Enforcement held the 5-year-old girl outside after chasing her father, Edward Hip, a Guatemalan man who has lived in the U.S. for 22 years, reported WBTS-CD.

"Is that your daughter? Come here so I can see those IDs," one of the agents said, according to the video.

The girl's mother tells the agents her daughter is on the autism spectrum and begs for her return, saying agents had grabbed the girl as she followed her father inside.

Wow, acting like the mafia by targeting someone's child. File it under "Another proud moment for ICE." In fact, John Ross Ferrara (KRON) has another proud moment to cover:

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents arrested a man inside the Wiley Manuel Courthouse in Oakland following a pre-trial hearing on Sept. 15, according to a statement issued by Alameda County public defender Brendon Woods on Monday.

Two ICE agents in plain clothes allegedly detained the man in a courthouse hallway and took him out of the building to waiting, unmarked vehicles. Agents took him to an ICE detention facility, where he remains in federal custody, according to Woods.

“ICE raids at our courthouses must stop immediately,” Woods said in a statement. “People who follow a judge’s orders to attend court should not have to fear federal agents kidnapping them and dragging them away to detention centers. Our democracy cannot function if this continues.”

The ICE arrest was the first made in an Alameda County courthouse under the authority of President Donald Trump, according to Woods.

“Everyone -- our clients, victims, witnesses, staff, lawyers -- deserves to participate without fear,” Woods said. “Our justice system loses legitimacy when people do not feel safe entering a courthouse. We cannot allow a racist, authoritarian regime to interfere with our local courts like this. It’s time to pick a side. Either you allow this to happen to members of our community or you take action to prevent it.”

Yesterday, some of' the survivors of Julian Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell's abuse took part in a press conference calling for justice and closure. Many spoke to the media throughout the day after the conference. On MSNBC, for example, last night Lawrence O'Donnell spoke with survivor Jena-Lisa Jones.

At THE HILL, Max Burns does a great job setting the stage:

President Trump probably hoped the long Labor Day weekend would help him outrun his political troubles. Instead, his absence from public view only seemed to sharpen the mounting questions about his health and fitness for office.

Unfortunately for Trump, one trouble never comes alone. The explosion of chatter around Trump’s health might have Americans questioning whether the president is up to the job, but it hasn’t distracted them from demanding the full release of the Jeffrey Epstein files. People want to know how their president was involved with the nation’s most notorious child sex trafficker — and, for once, they aren’t buying into Trump’s cynical distractions.

Where are the Epstein files, Mr. President?

After an August spent trying (and failing) to move on from Trump’s Epstein connection, Republicans have returned to Washington to find Epstein’s victims still waiting by House Speaker Mike Johnson’s (R-La.) door. Far from cooling the temperature regarding the Epstein documents, the August recess seems to have given Reps. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) and Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) time to build bipartisan consensus around their release. If Khanna and Massie get their way, Trump may soon have a black eye to match his bruised hands.

Watchdog organizations are pressing for answers, even if most congressional Republicans aren’t. Last week, the nonpartisan Democracy Defenders Fund filed a federal lawsuit against the Trump administration demanding the full release of all files related to the Epstein investigation — not just the same already-public documents the Department of Justice has falsely touted as “new” information. They argue, rightly, that transparency isn’t optional in a democracy, even if that transparency implicates the sitting president in potentially criminal misconduct.

From there, let's go to someone who stumbles. Justin Boggs (SCRIPPS NEWS) types:

Survivors who were exploited by Jeffrey Epstein's sex trafficking ring on Wednesday called for full transparency after Congress released thousands of pages of documents to the public.

Epstein was a convicted sex offender accused of victimizing hundreds of young women. At a news conference, Lisa Phillips said survivors are compiling their own list of people who abused Epstein's victims.

No, Justin, after Congress re-released 97% of pages of documents. We don't need to provide cover of lies. Only 3% of what Congress released yesterday was new. 97% was already publicly available.

This statement Justin later types makes clear that he knows that, "Most of the documents released Tuesday contained information that had already been made public through court filings and other records." That sentence belongs in the article first paragraph. Instead Justin buries it in paragraph ten. Back to his article:

"We know the names. Many of us were abused by them," she said. "We will confidentially compile the names we all know are regularly in the Epstein world."

Phillips said many people knew of Epstein's abuse.

"Why was he allowed to sponsor visas for young models using their immigration status as leverage to abuse them and silence them?" Phillips said. "Epstein was not just a serial predator; he was an international human trafficker. And many around him knew this, many participated, and many profited — and yet he was protected."

Phillips was among those calling for transparency.

Also stumbling is a member of Congress. Evan Williams (TAG24) notes, "MAGA Congressman James Comer claimed on Tuesday that Ghislaine Maxwell had 'exonerated' President Donald Trump during an interview with the Department of Justice." Comer's a liar or an idiot -- probably both. Pope Leo might be able to exonerate someone with a statement because the new pope is trusted. Jizzy Pants Maxwell? She's a convicted felon as is her dead partner Epstein. In her two days of chatting with air head Todd Blanche, Jizzy Pants insisted she was innocent and that so was Epstein. A liar like that? They can lie but they can't exonerate.

It's a point survivor Teresa J. Helm made in Wednesday's press conference. Sarah K. Burris (RAW STORY) reports:

"What I will say is she got this airtime and platform. Her voice was elevated way before our voices were elevated here today," said Hyelm. "And the same calm, manipulative voice that she had — so polite, there, that day with Todd Blanche, was the same polite, coercive, manipulative voice that I heard as she was grooming me to then send me off to the home of Jeffrey Epstein, where he would assault me."

The same attempt to build a relationship and try to garner trust was what Helm said she experienced. She was convinced she was about to start her "dream job" for which she'd been recruited from college. She was flown from Los Angeles to New York City for an interview.

"So, I thought her voice that day was the same voice that sent me off to a monster," she added.

Helm also noted that she thinks nothing can be believed that comes out of Maxwell, because she's already been caught with perjury.

"I myself could sit there and listen as I did, I sat there and listened, listen to this woman's voice, lie, and there was no pushback from Todd Blanche, because — does he even have the facts to be able to push back on her?" Helm asked. "We could sit there and push back. Why didn't we get to attend that? Why weren't we there that day, or why wasn't even one of us consulted prior to that day in that meeting? And why on Earth has she been moved from Florida to her — it's basically a prison spa. I mean, you know, let's be real."

She explained that none of the survivors were consulted ahead of the meeting or even told that the interview would happen.

One of the many survivors speaking at yesterday's press conference was Marina Lacerda. Kelly Rissman (INDEPENDENT) explains:

The woman credited with helping to indict Jeffrey Epstein has spoken out for the first time in the decades since she was first abused by the disgraced financier at age 14.

Marina Lacerda was part of a vast network of victims who were abused by Epstein as a teenager. Until now, she was identified as an unidentified minor victim in the 2019 federal indictment against the disgraced financier.

Joining lawmakers and a group of survivors in Washington, D.C. Wednesday, Lacerda, 37, shared details of her abuse by Epstein and demanded the complete release of the so-called Epstein Files.

“I never thought that I would find myself here,” she said. “The only reason I’m here is because it feels like the people who matter in this country finally care about what we have to say.”

She first met Epstein in 2002 in New York when she was just 14, according to the 2019 indictment.

The young Brazilian immigrant was a freshman in high school at the time, working three jobs to try to support her mom and her sister. That’s when a friend told her she could make $300 by giving an “older guy” a massage, she said at a Wednesday press conference on Capitol Hill.

“It went from a dream job to the worst nightmare,” Lacerda said.

I applaud these survivors and want to see justice for them. Release the files. That's a demand we need to make to honor those who were betrayed by the justice system and the Alex Acostas.

Kat: They are not going to go away. They are not going to be dismissed. They were ignored and threatened as girls and young women and they're not having it anymore nor should they. We need to join their call and demand all the records be released. We need to join their call and make it clear that Maxwell belongs in a real prison and not the social club Chump moved her to weeks ago. She is a convicted sex trafficker and pedophile. She has stood trial and been sentenced to 20 years behind bars.

Betty: Important day as survivors publicly spoke out and demanded justice.

They spoke out even as Chump attacked them. As US House Rep Jasmine Crockett noted, clearly the White House was the hostile actors.

They are not a hoax and they will not be silenced.

When the truth is spoken, we're all a little bit stronger as a result. We're inspired to speak more truth. We're encouraged to stand with those in need. Doing the right thing becomes very important.

Thank you to all the survivors who spoke today and who inspired us and who remembered the importance of humanity and that democracy requires a strong public square where the truth can be spoken and embraced.

The Department of Justice again insisted that U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi had no hand in dropping another case against one of her brother Brad Bondi’s clients facing felony wire fraud charges.

ABC News reported that Missouri federal prosecutors this week agreed to voluntarily dismiss an indictment against Sid Chakraverty, a property developer represented by Brad, co-chair of the Investigations and White Collar Defense practice at Paul Hastings.

Of course the bimbo had a hand in it. Maybe she just forgot she had a hand in it. Like, after she told the American people that the Epstein client list was on her desk, she then apparently forgot where on her desk it was and still can't find it.

The Justice Department on Thursday finalized a rule giving Attorney General Pam Bondi sweeping new authority to appoint virtually any attorney to serve as a temporary immigration judge — a sharp break from longstanding requirements designed to ensure expertise on the immigration bench.

The Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR), the DOJ agency that oversees the nation’s immigration courts, announced the change on Wednesday in a final rule scheduled for publication in the Federal Register the following day.

Under the rule, EOIR’s director, with Bondi’s approval, can “designate or select any attorney to serve as a temporary immigration judge” for six-month renewable terms. That means the department can bypass earlier restrictions limiting temporary appointments to former immigration judges, certain administrative law judges, or Justice Department attorneys with at least a decade of immigration law experience.

The department argued those restrictions were “needlessly narrow” and hampered efforts to manage an immigration court backlog that peaked at more than 4 million cases earlier this year.

“Immigration law experience is not always a strong predictor of success as an IJ,” EOIR wrote in the rule, pointing to permanent judges hired without prior immigration law backgrounds who it says went on to become “exemplary” jurists.

The move has alarmed immigration advocates, who warn that it risks turning the courts into political instruments of the Trump administration’s mass deportation push.
